Here’s How We’re Saying Thank You to Our Nurses on National Nurses Week

Nurses are incredibly important to how we deliver care to our patients—without them, there is no Ardent Hospice & Palliative Care. In fact, Ardent is nurse-owned; our founder, Susan Compton, was a nurse for many years before she undertook opening her own hospice organization.

We’re so grateful for our nursing team every day of the year, but during National Nurses Week (May 6-12), we make an even greater effort to show our appreciation. This year, Ardent is saying thank you to our nurses—as well as the nurses we work within hospitals and assisted living facilities—with celebrations and gifts. Our locations will be hosting a special breakfast or lunch in honor of our nurses this week, and many members of our team have written out thank-you cards, as a way to show our gratitude.

Our nurses do so much for our organization and patients we know these tokens aren’t enough to truly express our thanks. Here’s a glimpse at how much they do and why they are so extraordinary.

Understanding Our Nurses’ Roles in Bringing Your Loved One Care

Each one of our nurses plays a vital, crucial role in our patients’ overall care. At Ardent, we have several different types of nurses who work together in tandem to bring your loved one the best care possible.

Our director of patient care services oversees all the nursing care at their location. They’re in charge of nurse scheduling, ordering nursing supplies, and keeping everyone on the same page.

Then there are also RNs who take on the role of case manager. Each patient is assigned a case manager, who supervises every aspect of that patient’s care, including their emotional wellbeing. These nurses usually become closest with our families, and often care for their patients even when they’re no longer on call.

Visit nurses care for patients in between visits from their RN case managers. They supplement the care a patient receives from their designated RN, and may help with things like medicines or wound management.

Finally, our on-call nurses handle questions and emergencies that come up during “off-hours.” They work as triage nurses and can either help a family over the phone or rush to the home, depending on the need and situation.

Why They’re so Important to Our Team

Our nurses bring an incredibly rich and diverse background to Ardent. Some of them have hospice backgrounds, while others worked in home health or hospitals before joining our team. They also have a wide range of personalities; a few of our nurses are known to be especially gentle and soothing, while others are more direct and prioritize educating their families. Because they bring so many unique qualities to the table, we are able to find the perfect nurse pairing for our families. We know our nurses on a personal level and we try to get to know our families on an intimate level as well, which gives us the opportunity to mindfully place a case manager with the family that will benefit the most.

One of the reasons this is so important is because our nurses are the team members who see and interact with our patients and their families most frequently. In many cases, they see patients nearly every day and determine the care they receive. Our nurses are the heart of Ardent and a highly visible example of our values and mission.

They’re our leaders in care, giving our patients and families a personalized and thoughtful experience. We couldn’t do what we do in providing the best care possible if we didn’t have our wonderful nurses.

How You Can Say Thanks Too

If you’re a part of our Ardent family, then you’ve probably already seen what amazing dedication our nurses have. The most meaningful way you can say thank you for their service is probably something you’re already doing—allowing them to be a part of your family.

Welcoming them into your lives is a very special way to show your gratitude. Our nurses see themselves as an extension of your family, and to embrace them as such is to show them a little love back.
