It’s Hospice & Palliative Care Month! We’re Looking Back at How Ardent Got Its Start & Is Making Its Name

Every year in November, we take a minute to reflect on everything we’re doing at Ardent Hospice & Palliative Care and then look ahead to ways we can continue to improve on the care we deliver our patients. Since the beginning, we’ve always strived to give our patients and their families the best care possible. Here’s a look at how we got our start and how we’re going to keep giving providing our entire hospice and palliative care community with the outstanding service that’s become synonymous with our name.

It All Started with a Nurse Who Cared

There was so much experience and passion that went into our owner and CEO, Susan Compton’s, decision to found Ardent Hospice & Palliative Care. As a registered nurse, she gathered experience from working in hospice, skilled nursing, and assisted living communities. She felt that she could fill some of the gaps in service she observed and wanted to give back to the community she loved in the form of better hospice and palliative care.

The other component of Susan’s inspiration was a little more personal. Before founding Ardent, she had a family member who needed hospice and was able to see the importance of high-quality care from the other side of things.

With Ardent, Susan was able to create a company that was what she felt constituted the perfect hospice agency. Years later, she isn’t resting on her laurels; she’s still looking to improve the ways we administer care. We’re always finding ways to better our services, deliver more personalized care, and reach even more patients and communities throughout California.

Keeping the Tradition of High-Quality, Personalized Care

The first Ardent location was in San Diego. We then expanded into Palm Springs and Fresno, and just opened our newest office in Delano. Even with our growth, Ardent still remains a family-owned company, and Susan is still very involved with every aspect of our services. Since our start, we’ve always strived to set ourselves apart and make sure we’re giving unique care that goes above and beyond. Here are some examples:

  • Multiple locations allow us to stretch our reach and help patients who would not be able to receive hospice care otherwise.
  • Our partnership with the No One Should Die Alone Foundation (NOSDAF) means we’re able to help give care to patients in need. The non-profit funds three categories of patient support—necessities for life, life enhancements, and wish fulfillment—to help bring the best quality of life possible to them during their final days.
  • We were one of the first hospice agencies to offer a palliative care program to our patients and their families.

While National Hospice & Palliative Care Month might be a time for us to celebrate ourselves, we’re choosing to give back to our network and community. We’re spending the month visiting assisted living and skilled nursing facilities to provide in-service support and education. Any organization that is interested can contact us to set up a session for our team to talk to their staff about fall risk, advanced care planning, form procedures, holiday bereavement programs, or anything else they have questions about. It’s our way to thank the communities we work with for partnering with us and helping us deliver amazing care to our patients.

Expanding to Care for More Patients

Part of our commitment to growing and improving our care can only be accomplished by expanding our scope and physical presence. That’s why we opened our Delano office in October 2018. As our Fresno office continues to mature, we are receiving more and more requests for care from patients just south of our region.

Our location in Delano helps connect our services throughout California’s Central Valley. Instead of having our nurses, social workers, and spiritual counselors drive for hours to meet the needs of our patients, we’ve put our team in their community where we can help them best. In fact, with this fourth location, we’re able to serve 10 counties in the state and reach people who weren’t receiving hospice care before.

It’s always been our mission to give our patients superior, thoughtful care at a time in their lives when they need it most. If you’d like to learn more about how Ardent Hospice & Palliative Care can help your loved one, contact us online or give us a call at (559) 408-5945.
