The Ardent Team: How We’re Working Together to Bring Your Loved One the Very Best Care

At Ardent Hospice & Palliative Care, our team is more like a family. We believe that if a patient can really feel the sense that we care about each other, that we’re all connected and trust each other, then they’ll have more confidence in the care we’re able to give them.

There are so many people who make up the Ardent team. Whenever a patient comes onto our services, we like to say they’re welcomed into our ever-growing family. We have too many team members to name individually, but here’s a sense of everyone who works together to bring your loved one the very best care.

Your Ardent Family

Leading our team is Susan Compton, our CEO. Before founding Ardent, she worked in hospice care as a registered nurse, so she knows the importance of high-quality care at every level and is very involved in all aspects of our services.

The rest of our office is made up of our HR and financial departments, and administrators who oversee day-to-day office functions and nursing teams. There is also our marketing team, who work as a liaison between Ardent and the community.

Each location has its own medical director and doctors who oversee the nurses, medication, and care plan for patients.

We also partner with local pharmacies and durable medical equipment (DME) suppliers; while they might not be a direct part of the Ardent team, they are an important factor in the care we’re able to deliver.

Finally, there is the care team, which comprises registered nurses (RNs), licensed vocational nurses (LVNs), certified home health aides (CHHAs), social workers, spiritual counselors, and volunteers. While everyone on the Ardent team interacts with the patient to some degree, it’s this personal care team who really build a relationship with them.

At the end of the day, we also consider the families we work with to be a part of the Ardent team as well. They play a huge role in the type of care we administer to patients; we eagerly listen to their feedback, and tailor our treatment plans to meet their needs.

A Team of Support

Since we are a small, team-oriented hospice, we place a high priority on communication. A patient’s care team is always sharing information and observations with each other. They strive to keep each member in the loop of any changes in the patient’s physical or emotional state. For instance, the patient might share something with the social worker that’s related to their physical care; we document this information on their chart, but our team goes a step beyond to make sure the nurse knows immediately and can adjust their care as needed.

Our teams at each location—Fresno, Palm Desert, San Diego, and now Delano—also provide support to each other. Because of privacy laws, we never share specific patient information, but we’re able to discuss different techniques or practices that have worked well within an Ardent location. The team at each location is so diverse in their skill sets, and since we collaborate regularly—through conference calls, video chats, email threads, and weekly meetings—we’re able to learn from each other and apply the wealth of knowledge back into giving our patients the best care possible.

Ultimately, every person a patient speaks with or meets within our Ardent family is striving to make sure they feel cared for and comfortable. We know that no matter the position, we each play an important role in their end-of-life journey, and we are honored to walk with them.
