Why a Smaller Hospice Agency is Better Than a Big-Box, Corporate Agency

When your loved one has reached the end of their life, it can be a difficult and stressful time on your family. Choosing a hospice agency—although essential—can feel like an obligation, or even a burden. That’s why many people opt for a large, well-known company; it seems like the easier choice. And it makes sense that they would want to hire an agency that has an established reputation, after all, larger companies are often far-reaching with a considerable presence.

However, name alone isn’t the best reason to choose a hospice agency. Finding a hospice that is the best fit for your loved one and family should be the most important determinant. With Ardent Hospice & Palliative Care, we might be a smaller company, but we’re accredited and meet all the guidelines set forth by Medicare. Being smaller, we want to go above and beyond to prove to you that we are the best hospice company for your loved one. Here are a few reasons why you should give a small hospice agency consideration.

Families Get to Know Each Member of Our Team

Because Ardent has a relatively small staff, you have a better opportunity of personally getting to know everyone who will be caring for your loved one. While each patient has their set team, every Ardent employee plays an important role in the care they receive, and we make it a point to give patient and family a direct line of contact to every person at Ardent.

Whether it’s a question about billing, care techniques, or wish fulfillment opportunities, you can reach out to anyone on our team to find the answers you need; we’re just a phone call away.

We’re Able to Brainstorm Between Our Three Locations

Ardent has three offices—Fresno, Palm Springs, and San Diego—so many people believe we’re a bigger hospice than we actually are. While our teams may be separated by location, we’re actually very close and communicate constantly. This gives us three times the resources, since we’re able to share ideas between locations and work together as a seemingly larger team.

Our CEO is Directly Involved with All Aspects of the Company

One of the biggest benefits of working with Ardent is that you can speak directly with our owner and CEO, Susan Compton, to provide feedback or explain what you’re looking for from our services. She is very involved in every aspect of the company and knows what’s going on at each location. As an experienced RN, she works closely with the Ardent team to help provide the very best care for our patients, which means our nurses know that the standards set before them are high, and there isn’t any room for carelessness or apathy.

We Can Quickly Evolve Our Care to Meet a Patient’s Needs

With Susan so involved in the company, our nurses have the support to share ideas and get the approval to try out special programs or different approaches to care. As a company, we’re able to evolve and adjust to each patient’s specific situation. This gives us the freedom to cater our care so it meets their needs, wishes, and values. And because we have a direct line to Susan, we don’t usually have to jump through a series of hoops to make a change; we can place a phone call and make adjustments happen quickly.

We’re Fully Accredited

While Ardent is still a growing company, we’re fully accredited through all the different hospice programs, such as CHAP (Community Health Accreditation Partner) and Medicare. We meet all the standards and criteria required to provide hospice care, and we’re constantly looking for programs and ways to improve our services. But as a smaller company, we’re able to move within our accreditations to give our patients the best, most personalized care.

You Become a Part of Our Family

When you work with a smaller company like Ardent, you’re really going to feel a stronger connection to us; you’re going to feel very involved with everyone on our team and really become part of the Ardent family. Our entire staff is always looking for ways to make our patients feel as comfortable as possible and fully supported in every way. We’re each handle every aspect of a patient’s care, from medical, to emotional, and even financial—and truly have their back as if they were a part of our own family.
